President's Message
Many of California growers
will be going into their off year. This is not necessarily a bad thing
considering the continuing increase in demand for inshell pecans for export.
It can be difficult to meet both the size and quality requirements for
inshell nuts in an on-year without crop load management of some kind. The
returns to growers can be significantly higher if your crop does meet this
grade. It is my humble opinion that with the right varieties planted, and
focusing on California proven growing techniques, we as pecan growers can
realize per acre returns that rival many of the other tree nut crops grown
here, while at the same time growing the healthiest, tastiest nut in the
State!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Blain Farms and Hamilton
Ranches for their generous support of our association by agreeing to pay the
association dues of any grower that sells their pecans to them. This really
helps the association’s ability to represent all of California’s growers by
keeping them informed of current happenings in the pecan industry.
The California Pecan Growers Association will be having their
Annual Meeting in Chico Ca on August 4th
and 5th. We will be having the speaker presentations at the
Sierra Nevada Brewery in the afternoon of August 4th and orchard tours on
the morning of August 5th. It truly is something you shouldn’t
miss!
